GIRLS’ ROUNDUP : Santa Margarita Erases 15-Point Deficit to Stun Tustin

Santa Margarita rallied from a 15-point deficit to overcome Tustin, 54-50, in a Sea View League girls’ basketball game Thursday at Tustin.

Shannon Noonan scored 14 points, 12 in the second half, for Santa Margarita (4-11, 2-5 in league). Susie Dionne had 18 and Kelly Moohr added 12 for Santa Margarita. Tustin is 12-7, 4-3.

Tustin led, 30-15, at the half, but Santa Margarita outscored the Tillers, 22-13, in the third quarter and, 17-7, in the fourth quarter using an up-tempo offense and a pressure defense.

In other Sea View League games:

Woodbridge 85, Saddleback 23--All five starters scored in double figures for second-ranked Woodbridge. Erin Stovall had a game-high 17 points for the Warriors (18-0, 7-0).

Newport Harbor 58, University 44--Eighth-ranked Newport Harbor (13-5, 6-1) got 21 points from Genevieve Evarts to remain in second place. Jennifer Stanley had a game-high 23 for University.

Irvine 54, Corona del Mar 47--Melinda Newe had 17 points, four assists and three steals for Irvine (9-7, 3-4). Meaghan Woodruff had 17 points for the Vaqueros.

In the Express League:

Heritage Christian 42, Rolling Hills Prep 18--Sheri Larson scored 18 points for Heritage Christian (9-5, 6-1).

In the Freeway League:

La Habra 59, Sonora 58--Aiyanna Nash’s desperation shot didn’t beat the buzzer for Sonora. Nash finished with 20 points for Sonora (1-17, 0-5).

Troy 54, Sunny Hills 26--Jennie Gadd had 26 points for Warriors (13-5, 5-0), who remained in first place.

Fullerton 37, Buena Park 28--Nadia Hoerner scored 21 points for host Fullerton (11-7, 3-1), which led, 16-0, at the end of the first quarter.

In the Olympic League:

Cerritos Valley Christian 82, Orange Lutheran 48--Jodi Parriott of Cerritos Valley Christian (16-2, 6-0) scored 47 points, including the last 12 of the game. She re-entered the game late in the fourth quarter so she could break the school single-game scoring record. Amy Howard scored 12 points for Orange Lutheran (8-9, 2-4).

Capistrano Valley Christian 48, Ontario Christian 41--Andie Shaffner scored 22 points for Capistrano Valley Christian (9-7, 3-3). Kari Systsma scored 14 for Ontario Christian (9-7, 2-4).

In the Orange League:

Brea-Olinda 87, Savanna 18--Kiyoko Miller and Nicole Erickson each scored 18 for No. 1 Brea-Olinda (17-0, 5-0), which led 28-4 after one quarter and 52-9 at the half.

Valencia 53, Anaheim 28--Cindi Judd scored 15 points and LaQuinta Alexander added 14 points and 12 rebounds for Valencia (8-7, 3-2).

In the Pacific Coast League:

Costa Mesa 63, Trabuco Hills 40--Heather Robinson had 22 points and Corrie Lurmann added 13 for visiting Costa Mesa (11-6, 5-0), which took over sole possession of first place. Sarah Warnick had 14 points for Trabuco Hills (10-10, 4-1).

Laguna Hills 52, Century 37--Center Tayyiba Haneef scored 13 of her team’s 25 second-half points for Laguna Hills (10-7, 2-3). She finished with a game-high 22 points. Addie Alexander had 12 points and Nina Alexander added 11 for Century (10-8, 1-4).

Estancia 57, Laguna Beach 18--Laura Czingula had 17 points and 11 rebounds and Jenny Drake added 13 points and nine steals for Estancia (14-3, 3-2).

In the South Coast League:

San Clemente 54, Dana Hills 48--Ninth-ranked San Clemente (14-4, 4-1) defeated 10th-ranked Dana Hills (13-5, 3-2) to take sole possession of second place. Michelle Macintyre had a game-high 28 points for the Tritons.

Mater Dei 62, Capistrano Valley 46--Leticia Osegura had 19 points and Melody Peterson had 18 for fourth-ranked Mater Dei (15-2, 5-0).

Mission Viejo 51, El Toro 41--Treva Whitaker made 13 of 15 free throws in the fourth quarter to help visiting Mission Viejo (7-9, 1-4) hold off El Toro. Whitaker made 15 of 17 free throws in the game and finished with 24 points.

In the Sunset League:

Edison 52, Rosary 51--Marie Philman had nine of her game-high 27 points in the fourth quarter as host Edison held off Rosary (9-5, 3-4). Jennifer Chey made a three-pointer as time ran out for Rosary to make it a one-point game. Kathleen Celio had 19 and Chey 10.

Marina 69, Huntington Beach 66--Tied at the end of the half, Marina’s change in defense was the turning point for the Vikings, who made eight steals and allowed only six points in the third quarter. Shandy Robbins had 21 points and 18 rebounds and Traci Nakamura had a season-high of 17 points for No. 6 Marina (13-5, 6-1).

Ocean View 39, Westminster 31--Farrah Magee had 13 points and 17 rebounds for No. 7 Ocean View (15-3, 6-1).

Fountain Valley 58, Santa Ana 42--Erin Avila scored 10 points for No. 5 Fountain Valley.
