Loyola Loses Despite Jones’ 39
Gerald Walker’s 20 points and Art Wallace’s 19 points and 23 rebounds led the University of San Francisco to a 101-86 West Coast Conference victory over Loyola Marymount on Thursday.
The Dons, 9-5 overall and 1-2 in the WCC, ran away with the victory despite Wyking Jones’ 39 points and 16 rebounds for the Lions (1-13, 0-3).
Wilson Stephens scored eight points to trigger a 14-4 run that turned a 13-13 tie into a 27-17 USF lead with 10:30 remaining in the half.
The Dons’ lead fluctuated between five and 12 points. USF led at the half, 52-44.
The Lions came within three points at 55-52 and four points at 69-65 with 11:40 remaining.
Kent Bennett and Stephens each finished with 16 points for USF.
