PREP BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Prochaska, Harrell Lead Kennedy Overtime Victory

Kennedy defeated Santiago, 62-58, in overtime in a Garden Grove League girls’ basketball game Monday at Santiago High School.

Leslie Prochaska, who scored 19 points, helped Kennedy to an 11-point lead after three quarters, but Santiago outscored the Fighting Irish, 20-9, in the fourth quarter.

Rayna Harrell made a three-point basket with three seconds remaining in regulation to send the game into overtime. Harrell finished with 12 points.

In a free-throw filled overtime, Prochaska scored the only field goal as the Fighting Irish held on for the victory.

Heather Cunningham and Erryn Gutjahr each scored 12 points for Kennedy (13-7, 6-2).

Cari Remmel had 19 points and 17 rebounds and Jennifer Morris added 12 points and 16 rebounds for Santiago (5-13, 2-6).

In other Garden Grove League girls’ games:

Garden Grove 48, Pacifica 37--Nicole Murray scored a game-high 24 points for Garden Grove (7-10, 5-3). Pilar Surch had 12 for Pacifica (6-11, 2-6).

La Quinta 63, Bolsa Grande 12--Linda Rodriguez scored 28 and Rhonda Gondringer had 13 points and 11 rebounds for La Quinta (14-4, 8-0).

Rancho Alamitos 61, Los Amigos 34--Akilah Rodgers scored 26 points and grabbed 22 rebounds, and Julie Littman had 13 points for Rancho Alamitos (13-6, 7-1).

In Garden Grove League boys’ basketball:

Pacifica 93, Garden Grove 80--Chris Vlasic scored 27 points and Ramon Alliman 25 to lead seventh-ranked Pacifica (17-1, 8-0).

Santiago 61, Kennedy 50--Henry Johnson scored 25 points to help Santiago (8-12, 3-5) defeat Kennedy (5-14, 3-5) for the first time in the seven seasons the Fighting Irish have been in the Garden Grove League.

Los Amigos 53, Rancho Alamitos 51--Los Amigos (9-10, 5-3) trailed, 33-19, at halftime but held Rancho Alamitos (3-5 in league) to five third-quarter points. Chris Yu had 15 points for Los Amigos and Carlos Sianez had 14 points and 10 rebounds.

La Quinta 65, Bolsa Grande 47--Kevin Doane had 17 points and 14 rebounds and Greg Greenfield had 17 points to lead La Quinta (10-9, 4-4).
