VALLEY-AREA COLLEGE BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Cal Lutheran’s Unbeaten Season Vanishes in Poor Shooting Effort

Cal Lutheran’s worst shooting performance of the season led to the Kingsmen’s first defeat, 87-72, to Claremont-Mudd in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference basketball game Wednesday night at Claremont.

Cal Lutheran (15-1, 4-1 in conference play) fell behind by 20 points at halftime and made only 21 of 57 shots in the game. Paul Tapp scored 23 points for the Kingsmen and Damon Ridley added 19.

Claremont-Mudd is 6-9, 2-3.

Chaffey 87, Antelope Valley 84--Orville Turner scored 29 points for the Marauders (13-10, 6-3) in a Foothill Conference game.

Santa Monica 106, Valley 100--Kenyth Henry scored 27 points for Valley (9-13, 1-1) in a Western State Conference game.

WOMEN

Ventura 69, Compton 53--Julie Hardy scored 27 points to power Ventura to its 10th consecutive victory in a WSC game.

Canyons 87, Bakersfield 69--Rebekah Cunnan had 22 points and 10 rebounds for Canyons (9-12, 5-2) in a WSC game.

Valley 76, Santa Monica 54--Nicole Baines’ 21 points and nine rebounds led Valley in a WSC game.

University of San Francisco 69, CS Northridge 44--Katina Mines contributed 13 points and nine rebounds for Northridge (2-16).
