JEFFERSON PARK : Meeting to Focus on Crenshaw Rail Line
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority is sponsoring a community meeting to discuss plans for the proposed Crenshaw rail line at 6 p.m. Tuesday at West Angeles Church of God in Christ, 3045 W. Crenshaw Blvd.
Preliminary studies have been completed on two possible rail lines, both beginning at Pico Boulevard and running south through the Crenshaw corridor to Los Angeles International Airport and Hawthorne Plaza.
The next step is a 15-month environmental impact study.
Dale Royal, the Crenshaw project manager, said it is crucial to amass community input since the MTA approved further development of the rail line last week.
“We’ve already taken into account a real concern about (elevated) structures running along narrow streets like Vernon Avenue, so we’ve redesigned some portions as tunnels,” Royal said. “We need to get feedback on station locations, what types of businesses and services should be developed around the stations, what things should be explored in the environmental study.
“All of these things are critical if we’re going to get funding. A lot of rail lines in other areas are competing with us.”
