ROUNDUP : Village Christian Girls Win 20th

On a night when Village Christian High’s girls’ basketball team won its 20th game, Clanci Lehman and Laura Wagenveld had career-high scoring games.

The Crusaders routed Maranatha, 78-35, and improved to 20-1, 7-0 in Alpha League play. Lehman had 20 points and 10 rebounds; Wagenveld had 16 points and 11 rebounds. Trisha Palmquist added 16 points.

Alemany 78, Louisville 35--The Indians also picked up their 20th victory and remained undefeated. Carly Funicello led all scorers with 20 points as Alemany moved to 20-0, 9-0 in Mission League play. The Indians had every player on their roster score.

Van Nuys 51, Monroe 42--Tami Matsuguma scored 15 points for the visiting Wolves in a Valley Pac-8 game. Monroe Center Dimara Haymond grabbed 15 rebounds and scored eight points.

Notre Dame 48, Harvard-Westlake 33--Valery Brady led all scorers with 17 points while Maggie Dixon added 10 points and grabbed 18 rebounds to lead the visiting Knights (12-8, 5-4) in the Mission League game.

The victory qualified Notre Dame for the CIF Southern Section playoffs for the first time in four years, as well as tying the school record for wins in a season.

L.A. Baptist 55, Canyon 26--Senior forward Lori Neville scored 24 points to lead the Knights, who allowed just 11 points through the first three periods. Darcie Frazer added 12 points and eight steals for L.A. Baptist.

Simi Valley 43, Royal 32--Sarah Griffin scored 12 points and teammate Kim Butler added 10 for the Pioneers in a Marmonte league game. Royal’s Tawnee Cooper was 10 of 14 from the free-throw line.

Bell-Jeff 66, St. Mary’s 58--Forward Cathy Flores was dominant, scoring 23 points to go along with 10 rebounds and seven assists as the Guards (18-4, 10-1) won in a Camino Real League game.

Newbury Park 62 Thousand Oaks 43--Kara McKeowen scored 18 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead the Panthers to their first victory over Thousand Oaks in nine years.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Canyon 84, L.A. Baptist 60--Greg Minor’s 31-point performance led the host Cowboys (17-5) in a nonleague romp, while Charles Woodard added 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

The Knights (14-6) actually held a seven-point lead with 5:38 remaining in the second quarter before the Canyon press took effect, allowing the Cowboys to go on a 19-3 run.

Buckley 54, Yula 47--T.J. Jackson scored 26 points and had eight steals for the host Griffins (10-7, 7-3) in a Liberty League game.

Eagle Rock 41, Verdugo Hills 34-Yammar Carbonell scored 15 points for the host Eagles in the Northern Conference game.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Oak Park 4, Carpinteria 0-- Chris Gorlitz and Chris Bramer each scored a pair of goals as the visiting Eagles improved to 9-1 in Tri-Valley league play and 12-4 overall.

Agoura 3, Westlake 1 (OT)--Mike Sanders scored twice to lead the visiting Chargers (5-10-3, 3-7-2) to the Marmonte League overtime victory.

Sanders’ first goal came at the 60-minute mark in regulation play, tying the score at 1-1. After Harrison Choi scored the go-ahead goal in the 94th minute, Sanders found the net again three minutes later to ice the game for Agoura.

Casey Barber had the lone goal for the Warriors.

Thousand Oaks 2, Newbury Park 2--Tyler Rice scored to put visiting Thousand Oaks (10-6-1, 7-4-1) ahead in the first overtime, but with five minutes remaining in the second overtime, Alan Milin retied the score.
