SOUTH COAST LEAGUE ROUNDUP : San Clemente Extends Slide for Cougars

Graham Gary made three of four free throws in overtime, and Luke Mannix added a three-point basket and two free throws as San Clemente upset Capistrano Valley, 78-76, in a South Coast League boys’ basketball game Friday night at San Clemente.

It was the fourth loss in five games for Capistrano Valley (15-8, 4-4).

Mannix and Phinney Gardner scored 21 points each for San Clemente (11-11, 2-6). Brandon Puffer scored 16 points, 12 in the fourth quarter and overtime, for Capistrano Valley.

In other South Coast League games:

Mater Dei 105, El Toro 47--Top-ranked Mater Dei scored more than 100 points for the third time this season.

Miles Simon led the Monarchs (24-0, 8-0) with 21 points, 12 assists and seven steals. Schea Cotton and Clay McKnight (four three-pointers) each added 20.

Jim Lewis led El Toro (10-13, 2-6) with 14 points.

Dana Hills 65, Mission Viejo 51--Dimitri Kandis scored 16 points to lead Dana Hills (12-11, 5-3). Austin Moherman scored 18 points for Mission Viejo (9-12, 3-5).
