Workshop on Transit : Grants Scheduled
Caltrans will sponsor a workshop Feb. 25 for local public and private nonprofit agencies interested in applying for federal grants for disabled or senior citizen transportationservices.
The Federal Transit Administration has more than $5 million in grants for California transit services that serve the two limited-mobility groups. Agencies can use the grants to pay for up to 80% of the purchase price for buses, vans or other vehicles.
The program has helped buy 1,500 vehicles statewide since it was created in the 1970s, California Department of Transportation officials said. Applications can be filed at any district office of Caltrans, the state agency that distributes the grants.
The workshop will help prospective applicants understand the grant requirements and review process. The workshop will be at 9 a.m. at the Caltrans District 12 office at 1700 Carnegie St., Building B, Room 100, in Santa Ana. To make reservations, call Barbara Gossett at (714) 724-2732 or Larry Layne at (714) 724-2267.
