VALLEY-AREA COLLEGE ROUNDUP : CLU Shakes Off Pesky Caltech, 121-71

The Cal Lutheran men’s basketball team scored nearly two points for every fan in attendance at its 121-71 victory over Caltech on Monday at Pasadena. The official attendance was 65.

Cal Lutheran (22-2, 11-2 in SCIAC play) had a 58-46 lead at halftime. Caltech (8-13, 0-13) made 20 of 25 shots from the field (80%) and the Kingsmen shot 59% in the first half.

Rupert Sapwell (23 points) was one of six Cal Lutheran players to hit double figures. Sapwell, who made 11 of 15 shots from the field, also led the team with six rebounds.

Damon Ridley added 21 points and six assists. Kenny Caesar had seven assists for Cal Lutheran.

The Master’s 112, American Indian 75--Doug Leaman scored 24 points, including six three-point baskets, to lead the Mustangs (25-4) to a nonconference victory.

James Mosely added 23 points on nine-for-12 shooting from the field, and Andy Thompson had 15 assists for the Mustangs.

Brady Rivers led American Indian with 24 points. American Indian shot 26% from the field.

BASEBALL

The Master’s 10, Cal Lutheran 10--The host Kingsmen (7-1-1) rallied from an 8-0 deficit to tie the score in the nonconference game after seven innings, but it was called because of darkness after eight.

Designated hitter Chris Fick tied the score with a double in the seventh inning.

Fick was four for five with two doubles. Infielder Joe Gordon hit his first home run and doubled for the Kingsmen.
