Outlook: Wright begins his 11th year coaching the boys but inherits the girls’ team for the first time and looks forward to what this group will accomplish over the next few years. “I think we’ll do real well,” he said, “and regardless of our success, we’ll be very good the next two or three years.” Marina is young, and its depth is suspect, but it has a gem in Mijares (second, 500-yard freestyle; third, 200 free at section meet). Marina dominated the league in the mid-1980s, and with the exception of one season Edison won the title, Fountain Valley has won every championship since. Wright again expects a two-team league race between the Vikings and Fountain Valley. Newcomers Martinez (sprint freestyle) and Beauregard (backstroke, butterfly) should make an immediate impact.
