A 43-year-old Silver Strand man has been arrested on suspicion of kidnaping, child molestation, false imprisonment and producing child pornography in a case involving two children, authorities said Sunday.

Sheriff’s investigators arrested Jack Steven Sobonya at his home in the unincorporated beach community Saturday after the children’s parents contacted deputies, Senior Deputy Joe Evans said.

Evans said Sobonya allegedly befriended the children, ages 12 and 9, in February by offering to take them fishing, with the permission of their parents.

He is accused of later molesting one of the youngsters and videotaping the children for pornographic films.

Evans said one of the children told a parent about the alleged encounters Saturday.

The child’s parents then contacted sheriff’s deputies, who took Sobonya into custody.

Evans said Sobonya remained in custody Sunday at Ventura County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.
