Highlights

Valencia won its second straight league championship. Five Tigers were selected first-team all-league and two made the second team. Valencia won a wild game in the opening round of the Southern Section Division II playoffs, defeating Burbank Burroughs, 13-10. . . . Brea-Olinda was the league’s most surprising team, finishing second with a roster devoid of varsity experience. Senior outfielder Dan Miller was selected the league’s MVP after batting .500 with two home runs and 21 runs batted in. Junior catcher Mike Brambilla tied for fifth place in the county in home runs with six. . . . Western improved from fifth the previous season. The Pioneers played a wild-card game in the Division II playoffs, losing to Sunny Hills, 4-1. Junior left-hander Isaiah Cadena pitched one of the county’s five no-hitters in a 4-1 league victory over Anaheim. Cadena (4-4) allowed only four baserunners. Junior outfielder Matt Montgomery was selected first-team all-league. Montgomery batted .400 and finished fourth in the county in RBIs with 32. . . . Under first-year Coach John Hangartner, Magnolia won five more league games than in the previous season. Magnolia remained in contention for a possible playoff berth until it lost to Valencia, 7-1, on the season’s final day. Junior outfielder Jason Dangler was selected first-team all-league after batting .483 in league play. . . . Savanna split its final two games to tie Magnolia’s league record. . . . Anaheim, which started 0-8 in league play, won four of its final seven league games.
