PREP ROUNDUP : Kozak Leads Rancho Alamitos’ Baseball Victory

Greg Kozak hit two doubles and had three runs batted in as Rancho Alamitos beat Monrovia, 8-5, Monday in the first round of the Duarte baseball tournament.

Brett Osterode had two doubles and two RBIs for Rancho Alamitos (2-0). Monrovia is 1-1.

In nonleague tennis:

Dana Hills 14 1/3, Fountain Valley 1--Dana Hills’ doubles team of Hanely Ernst and Brian Navarro swept their sets, 6-3, 6-0, 6-1. The final sets were called because of rain. Dana Hills is 3-0. Host Fountain Valley is 1-2.

Servite 13, Western 2 1/3--The Friars’ Dan Lighthipe defeated his first two opponents, 6-2, 6-1, before the match was called because of rain. Alex Piana also won his first two sets, 6-2, 6-1, and the doubles team of Hun Kim and Mike Luciano swept their sets, 6-4, 6-4, 6-0, by default. Servite is 3-1. Western is 1-2.

In nonleague softball:

Laguna Hills O, Fountain Valley 0 (5 innings, rain)--Laguna Hills (1-0-1) had an opportunity to score in the top of the fifth with the bases loaded and no outs, but failed to get a run across. Fountain Valley is 2-0-1.

In nonleague golf:

Western 216, Long Beach Poly 226--Tiger Woods, who had three birdies, shot one-under-par 35, for Western at Recreation Park in Long Beach. Western is 3-0; Long Beach Poly is 2-1.

El Modena 203, Magnolia 247--Sean Brocklebank shot par 35 at Dad Miller for El Modena (3-0).

In nonleague boys’ volleyball:

Capistrano Valley Christian 3, Harbor City Gateway Christian 0--Brandon Florke had eight kills and John Lind had eight aces for host Capistrano Valley Christian, which won, 15-4, 15-2, 15-2.

Ontario Christian 3, St. Margaret’s 2--Gavin Cuneo had 14 kills for St. Margaret’s (0-1), which lost, 14-16, 13-15, 15-11, 15-11, 15-12.

Valencia 3, Servite 0--Joe Reynoza had 17 kills for host Valencia (2-1), which won, 15-3, 15-11, 15-5. Servite is 1-2.

Fountain Valley 3, La Quinta 0--Ed Ratledge had 13 kills as Fountain Valley won 15-6, 15-6, 15-8 in its season-opener. Kevin Doane had 11 kills La Quinta (1-2).
