OUTLOOK

The Warriors got in on the worst-to-first phenomena, sharing the league title with Irvine and winning the school’s first baseball playoff game. But they lost a lot of talent to graduation, including All-Southern Section player Ryan Lemmon (.455, 25 RBIs). To repeat last season’s success, Woodbridge must get significant contributions from those who were role players a year ago: Watts batted .423 in 29 at-bats, and Richey hit .368 in 19 at-bats and stole 13 bases. The team’s strength is pitching. Those who are returning aren’t bad: Talbot was the No. 2 man on the staff, going 6-1 with a 3.41 ERA; Bruckler was 2-1 with a 2.03 ERA, and Tourtellot, then a sophomore, was 2-0 on the varsity. That’s a good strength to have in this league, but it might not be enough. The team’s outfield play is questionable, as is the Warriors’ ability to hit the ball with authority. Pitching should make them competitive; hitting could make them frustrated. The program should flourish under Brown, though; his career record, including his years at Tustin, is 162-52 (76%).
