PREP SOFTBALL ROUNDUP : Rueter Pitches Perfect Game for Brethren

Michelle Rueter recorded her first perfect game of the season and her second no-hitter for Brethren Christian in its nonleague 10-0 victory over Southern California Christian in a softball game Thursday at Brethren Christian.

Rueter (4-1) struck out nine and went two for three, including a double and an RBI. Kristi Howard went two for three and scored twice for Brethren Christian, which improves to 4-1.

In other nonleague softball:

El Dorado 2-4, Irvine 1-0--Heather Hamer allowed only four hits in El Dorado’s first victory of the doubleheader. In the second game, Carrie Jeffries allowed only two hits.

Laguna Beach 14, Capistrano Valley Christian 4 (6, mercy rule)--Jennifer Roche (2-1) had seven strikeouts for host Laguna Beach (2-2).

Laguna Hills 18, Magnolia 1--Laguna Hills (2-0-1), top-ranked in Division III, scored 14 runs in the fourth inning. Jennifer Arzola went three for five with two triples and Aliycia Stevens went four for four with four runs scored.

Los Alamitos 3, Fountain Valley 0--The Griffins’ Debbie Wilson improved to 4-0 with the victory. Her twin sister, Carolyn, went two for three with a triple and a single. Cindy Tredway had two hits and two RBIs, including a solo homer, for Los Alamitos (6-0). Fountain Valley is 2-3-1.

Pacifica 2, Villa Park 0--Senior Shelly Dunn gave up a hit over four innings to pick up the victory for the visiting Mariners.

Trabuco Hills 4, Mission Viejo 1--Natalie Galasso went four innings, giving up one hit and striking out three, for Trabuco Hills (2-0).

Western 3, Bolsa Grande 2--After Western (4-2) tied the score on an error in the bottom of the ninth, Brandy Baker hit the game-winning single. Jodie Thibodeaux went three for four.

In a Brea-Olinda softball tournament consolation game:

Aliso Niguel 5, Edison 4--Allison Batten went two for three with a double and two RBI to lead Aliso Niguel (2-2). Christina Benshoff tripled for the Chargers (1-2).

Buena Park 13, Norwalk Glenn 0--Jennifer Merrow pitched a complete game in the victory for Buena Park (3-2).

Esperanza 2, La Serna 1--Center fielder Wendy Harrison scored one run and had four stolen bases for Esperanza (3-1). Esperanza will face Charter Oaks at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Brea High School.

In Cypress Tournament:

Mater Dei 4, Capistrano Valley 3--Colleen Boddy’s single in the seventh inning scored Candice Kollen for the winning run for Mater Dei (3-1) in a consolation game. Boddy, Kollen and pitcher Patty Godwin each had two hits. Mater Dei will meet Buena Park for the consolation finals at 5:00 p.m. Saturday at Cypress.
