OJAI : Suspected Arson Fire Destroys 3-Story Barn
The Ventura County Fire Department is investigating a suspected arson fire that burned down a large wooden barn alongside the Ventura River near Ojai on Saturday, a department spokeswoman said.
The fire that ignited about 2:30 p.m. destroyed the three-story structure at 2 Puesta Del Sol, causing $75,000 in damage, the spokeswoman said.
Neighbors reported seeing smoke and then large flames whipped by the strong afternoon winds. As ash from the fire dropped from the sky, a few of those living in the area took the precaution of watering down areas around their homes, according to the fire official.
Three engines responded to the blaze, but firefighters were unable to save the building, the spokeswoman said. The damage estimate includes $25,000 in farm equipment. No one was injured in the fire.
