PREP BASEBALL LOARA TOURNAMENT : Fountain Valley, Hudson Shut Out Diamond Bar to Win Title

Starter Luke Hudson pitched three innings of one-hit ball to spark Fountain Valley to a 15-0 victory over Diamond Bar in the championship game of the Loara Diamond Tournament Saturday in Anaheim.

Hudson was named Fountain Valley’s most outstanding player of the tournament, earning three of his team’s five victories in the 32-team tournament.

After a scoreless first, Fountain Valley jumped on Diamond Bar starter Justin Johnson for three runs, led by Derick Yanagisawa’s bases-loaded single to center.

Chris Ponchak’s 375-foot home run to left-center started a four-run outburst in the third. Jeff Hoppie’s double to center drove in two runs.

Fountain Valley pounded 18 hits. Ponchak, Hoppie and Daniel Keller each had three hits.

In the third-place game:

El Dorado 8, Loara 2--Jeff Moore went three for three and drove in two runs for El Dorado (4-1), ranked seventh in Division I.

In the fifth-place game:

Marina 11, Ocean View 8--All nine batters scored for Marina (4-1) in a nine-run second inning. Nate Newton went three for four, with a home run, a double and a single and three runs batted in.

In consolation championship:

Huntington Beach 10, Cypress 5--Jason Segal had three hits and five RBIs in for Huntington Beach (4-1). Cypress is 3-2.

In consolation games:

La Quinta 8, Los Alamitos 7 (13 innings)--La Quinta (3-2) scored three runs in the bottom of the 12th with two outs to tie the score, 7-7, then won in the 13th.

Anaheim 8, Riverside North 7--Anaheim (2-3) scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh with two outs.

Pacifica 10, Western 9--Pacifica (2-3) scored three times in the bottom of the seventh to win.

Villa Park 7, Newbury Park 6--Jeremy Pari scored the winning run on a single by Matt Brady in the top of the sixth inning for Villa Park (3-2).
