COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Powell’s Three RBIs Help Titans Beat Grand Canyon
Dante Powell scored four runs and drove in three more as Cal State Fullerton beat Grand Canyon, 12-6, Sunday at Titan Field.
The Titans (18-4), ranked No. 1 in the nation by Collegiate Baseball and No. 2 by Baseball America, completed the sweep of the three-game series.
Powell had two hits and walked three times and Jeff Ferguson, Brian King and D.C. Olsen each drove in two runs for the Titans. Fullerton scored three in the first inning and five in the third. Grand Canyon (15-9-1) scored five in the fourth, knocking Titan starter Mike Parisi out of the game. Parisi gave up seven hits, walked four and was charged with three earned runs.
Dan Ricabal (3-0) pitched five innings of relief, giving up only one run, to pick up the victory.
In nonconference softball:
CS Fullerton 6-2, Missouri 0-0--Jennifer Mortensen pitched a six-hitter and Heidi Robertson had three hits, stole a base and scored a run in the second game for the host Titans (9-13).
In nonconference women’s tennis:
UC Irvine 7, Colorado State 2--The host Anteaters (5-8) won in straight sets in Nos. 1 through 5 singles. Freshman Natasha Frantz, who beat Beth Watson, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 4, improved her record to a team-best 8-5.
