Metrolink Cuts Fare for Burbank Trip

Share

Metrolink officials Tuesday announced fare reductions beginning next month for Burbank-bound passengers from the western San Fernando Valley and Ventura County.

Because the Burbank stop has turned out to be a destination point second only to Union Station in Downtown Los Angeles, officials said they would shift Burbank into a closer fare zone for passengers from the west, bringing down the price of monthly passes by $32 across the board.

“Burbank was viewed as a boarding station, not a destination. It’s right on the edge of the zone, so (initially) we said we’d leave it grouped with Glendale and Los Angeles,” said Metrolink spokesman Brendan Shepherd.

But because of the consistent use of Burbank as a final stop for many riders, Metrolink officials decided to cut prices by grouping Burbank and the Van Nuys station in the same zone, he said.

In addition to the fare reductions on monthly passes, which go on sale Monday, prices have also been scaled back on single tickets and 10-trip tickets.

Fares between Burbank and Los Angeles will remain the same.
