LIGHTS, CAMERA, BUGS: The Oxnard boy who loves to show off his collection of live and dead bugs, James Fujita, makes his national television debut this evening on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” . . . NBC producers, intrigued by last week’s story on the sixth-grade entomologist, booked the bug boy for a show in April. But Leno got so excited, he announced on his show that James would air tonight. So this afternoon, an NBC limousine will whisk James and a few of his critters to the Burbank studio. James said he’ll bring live tarantulas, scorpions and walking sticks. “We’ll let them decide which ones to put on the show.”

ALL ABOARD: Burbank-bound commuters, including those who don’t get to ride in a limousine, got some good news: Metrolink will cut its fares to Burbank as much as 20%. (B1) Transit officials lowered the price to attract more customers. . . . But the cut annoyed some passengers to other stations. Moorpark Mayor Paul Lawrason won’t get a break on his $112 monthly pass to Chatsworth. “They’re cherry-picking the fare reduction and I can’t agree with that,” he said.

A NUTTY NIMBY: To Kathleen Adams, the fuzzy-tail squirrels she feeds in her yard are an endless source of delight (B1). But to her Thousand Oaks neighbors, they’re terrorists with teeth, ripping up their yard and gnawing holes in their roof. . . . The result: a lawsuit seeking $5,000 to cover repairs. Randy and Nancy Hecht claim their neighbor has “transformed her house. . . into (a) wild squirrel sanctuary.”

REAR WINDOW: Silver-dollar-sized decals with the initials “OB” are popping up on police cars’ windows across Oxnard in memory of Jim O’Brien, known as OB to his friends. . . . He was the officer slain during the Dec. 3 massacre at a local unemployment office. Oxnard police also dedicated its annual charity football game to O’Brien and will give some proceeds to programs for kids. “He was always promoting youth activities,” said Cmdr. Jamie Skeeters. “We’re just carrying on where he left off.”
