COLLEGE BASKETBALL DAILY REPORT : AROUND THE NATION : Missouri Guard O’Liney Arrested

Paul O’Liney, a key reserve at Missouri, was arrested early Tuesday for allegedly punching a woman in the face several times outside a nightclub.

Coach Norm Stewart said the junior guard probably will be suspended for at least one game, which could be the Tigers’ first game of the West Regional, against Navy, at Ogden, Utah.

The incident happened outside a downtown Columbia, Mo., club around 1:30 a.m. CST, said police Sgt. Eric Meyer.

O’Liney, 6 feet 2, is averaging 22 minutes and 9.4 points a game.

Auburn Coach Tommy Joe Eagles, who had only one winning season in five years, resigned and accepting a $140,000 settlement from the university.

Eagles, 44, had been under fire after the Tigers struggled to an 11-17 record this season. Eagles was 64-78 in five years at Auburn.

The list of candidates to replace Eagles has centered on outgoing Clemson Coach Cliff Ellis, Western Kentucky Coach Ralph Willard, Tennessee-Chattanooga Coach Mack McCarthy, a former Auburn assistant, and former Alabama coach Wimp Sanderson.

Will Rey quit as coach at Loyola of Chicago after winning only 45 games in five years.

The Ramblers ended a 8-19 season last week with a loss to Butler in the first round of the Midwestern Collegiate Conference tournament.

Rey was 45-96 at Loyola.
