COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Pepperdine Beats the Titans Again

Pepperdine continued its recent domination of Cal State Fullerton, beating the Titans, 2-1, in a nonconference baseball game Wednesday at Titan Field.

It was the eighth consecutive time that Pepperdine has beaten Fullerton. It was also the second time this season that the unranked Waves (12-10) have beaten the top-ranked Titans (18-5).

Fullerton leads the all-time series, 30-26.

Pepperdine scored single runs in the first and third and Fullerton scored its only run in the second.

The Titans had a chance in the ninth but failed to score.

Adam Millan walked to start the inning and was sacrificed to second by Jeremy Giambi.

Pepperdine then went to reliever Mauricio Estavil, who struck out pinch-hitter D.C. Olsen and Tony Miranda to end the game.

Pepperdine had a chance to open a big lead in the first when the Waves loaded the bases with no out on a single, a walk and a hit batter. Fullerton starter Chad Rolish then hit No. 4 hitter Keven Dell’Amico to force in a run.

Catcher Bret Hemphill helped Rolish out by picking off David Rosato at third for the first out. Rolish got the next two batters to end the inning.

The Titans scored in the second when Millan doubled to open the inning. He came home on a two-out error by Pepperdine first baseman David Newhan.

Pepperdine took the lead in the third.

Ryan Christenson singled and went to third on a hit-and-run single by Rosato. Jason Cohen followed with an RBI single and Waves led, 2-1.

Rolish (5-2) allow two runs in seven innings and took the loss.

Fullerton plays at UCLA at 7 p.m. Friday then play host the Bruins at 1 p.m. Sunday.

Chapman 6, Whitman (Wash.) 0--Allistair Ray pitched a complete-game five-hitter for Chapman, striking out seven.

Third baseman Duke Best had a double and four RBIs for Chapman, which improves to 6-13. Whitman is 1-4.
