PREP BASEBALL ROUNDUP : Arceyut Feeling Better, Lifts Estancia

Jairo Arceyut returned after missing two weeks with a separated shoulder and contributed in a big way as Estancia defeated Costa Mesa, 10-4, Friday in the teams’ Pacific Coast League baseball opener at Estancia.

On the mound, Arceyut struck out 11, walked two and gave up just three hits in six innings. At the plate, he had two hits, stole two bases and scored two runs.

Galvin Yanagusawa went four for four with a triple and two runs for Estancia (4-3, 1-0).

Costa Mesa fell to 2-4, 0-1.

In other Pacific Coast League games:

Laguna Hills 11, Laguna Beach 2--Brett Nista was three for three, including his second homer, scored three runs and drove in three for host Laguna Hills (4-5, 1-0). Schea Reiter added three hits, two runs and two RBIs.

Trabuco Hills 14, Century 1--John Lukin had three hits and an RBI, and Brad Cervantes had two hits and three RBIs in Trabuco Hills’ 16-hit attack. Trabuco Hills is 4-3, 1-0; Century is 4-2, 0-1.

In the Century League:

Canyon 13, Santa Ana Valley 2--Catcher Josh Gutierrez went three for four with two RBIs, and teammate Todd Wyatt was three for four and scored four runs for visiting Canyon (5-2, 1-0).

Foothill 4, Orange 3--Jeff Pickler had a double, a triple, an RBI and scored a run and Ross Parkin had two hits and two RBIs for Foothill (3-4, 1-0). Orange is 4-3, 0-1.

Villa Park 2, El Modena 1--Matt Brady pitched a two-hitter, striking out four, and doubled in the winning run with one out in the bottom of the seventh for Villa Park (5-2, 1-0).

In the Freeway League:

Buena Park 9, Sonora 4--Greg Cabral homered to lead off the first and second innings, scored four runs and stole two bases for host Buena Park (4-1, 1-0). Timmy Jones was three for three with three stolen bases and two RBIs. Adam Chez homered for Sonora (4-3, 0-1). Francisco Espinoza (3-0) gave up two earned runs and five hits for Buena Park.

Fullerton 9, Sunny Hills 2 (6, darkness)--Craig Freeman hit a three-run home run in the first, and Ryan Golisano struck out 12 and didn’t allow an earned run in six innings for Fullerton (6-1, 1-0).

Troy 7, La Habra 2--Rick Parmenter pitched a six-hitter for the Warriors (6-0, 1-0). Rich Richey also had two hits and three runs batted in for Troy.

In the Orange League:

Anaheim 3, Magnolia 1--Damion Marquez struck out two batters with runners on first and third in the seventh to earn the save for Anaheim (4-4, 1-0). Marquez relieved sophomore Joe Palacio, who allowed four hits as the starter.

Stewart Gorton’s two-run double in the sixth was the difference for Colonists, who dropped Magnolia to 3-5, 0-1.

Valencia 12, Brea-Olinda 10--Justin Averitt had two hits, including a grand slam, Joe Secoda had two hits and two RBIs and scored twice, and Luis Garcia had two hits and scored once in the upset for Valencia (1-5, 1-0). Brea fell to 6-1, 0-1.

Western 3, Savanna 2--Matt Montgomery struck out nine and allowed three hits in seven innings, hit two doubles and drove in a run to lead Western (4-4, 1-0).

In the South Coast League:

Mater Dei 14, El Toro 1--Brad Ticehurst and Ed Marquez hit home runs, and Adam Harris hit a three-run double and got the victory for host Mater Dei (1-0 in league). El Toro is 5-3, 0-1.

In nonleague baseball:

Ambassador Christian 11, Heritage Christian 4--Heritage Christian (2-2) gave up 14 walks, four hits and hit three batters.

Bolsa Grande 5, Santa Ana 3--Ralph Ralpho and Brent Caldwell each had a hit and an RBI for Bolsa Grande (3-2).

Brethren Christian 4, Whitney 0--Plagued by errors, Whitney allowed Brethren Christian (2-3) to score all of its runs without giving up one hit. Ryan Babcock, Matt Dyer, Paul Stites and Kevin Vasquez all walked and scored their runs following fielding errors.

Edison 5, Santa Margarita 3--Travis Clutter’s three-run double in the sixth won it for visiting Edison (5-1). Justin Haugen added a home run and a double.

Mission Viejo 18, University 16--Freshman Jason Marian had a home run and a double, drove in seven runs and allowed one earned run in three innings of relief to lead Mission Viejo (2-3). Jesse Dorn added two hits, scored two runs and drove in five runs.

Pacific Shores 6, St. Michael’s 5--Josh Calv scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the seventh to win it for St. Michael’s (1-0). Calv had doubled in two runs to tie the score. Mike Stothers hit a two-run homer in the fourth for St. Michael’s.

Sierra Madre LaSalle 6, Orange Lutheran 4--Paul Peterson had two hits for visiting Orange Lutheran (1-5).
