ROUNDUP : Chase, Perry Anchor Quartz Hill Boys, Girls

Jamaal Chase and Michelle Perry each won three events and anchored a victorious relay team to lead the Quartz Hill High boys’ and girls’ track teams to victories over Palmdale in a Golden League meet Thursday at Quartz Hill.

Chase, a senior, posted winning marks of 6 feet 6 inches in the high jump, 22-6 in the long jump and 41-4 in the triple jump in the Rebels’ 75-61 victory. He also anchored Quartz Hill’s 400-meter relay team in 43.8 seconds.

Troy Searcy, who ran the second leg on the 400 relay team, added victories in the 100 (10.9) and 200 (21.7), and Brian McWhorter placed first in the shotput (40-7) and discus (136-10) for Quartz Hill (2-1, 2-0 in league meets).

Antonio Arce led defending league champion Palmdale (1-1, 1-1) with victories in the 800 (2:04.4) and 3,200 (10:21.0).

Perry, a freshman, won the 100 (12.5), 200 (26.0) and long jump (15-0), and anchored the winning 1,600-meter relay team (4 minutes 29.7 seconds) to lead Quartz Hill to a 77-49 victory in the girls’ meet.

Senior Nicole Martin cruised to victories in the 800 (2:44.1), 1,600 (5:59.7) and 3,200 (12:59.0 for the Rebels (2-1, 2-0), the six-time defending league champions.

Sarah Phelps won the high jump (4-10) and triple jump (31-5 1/2) for Palmdale (1-1, 1-1).

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Alemany d. Crespi, 15-13, 15-4, 15-9--Senior Dave Zufelt had 21 kills and his brother Charles, a junior, had 42 assists for Alemany (5-2, 4-1) in the Mission League match at Crespi.

Harvard Westlake d. Notre Dame, 15-6, 15-10, 15-5--Seth Rodsky had 11 kills and Matt Sebree added 10 for the Wolverines in the Mission League match at Harvard-Westlake.

Court Young had 41 assists for the Wolverines (6-1, 4-1).

COLLEGE BASEBALL

Mt. San Jacinto 13, Antelope Valley 10--Mt. San Jacinto parlayed two hits and three errors into three runs in the ninth to break a 10-10 tie and beat the Marauders (9-8, 3-5) in a Foothill Conference game at Lancaster.

Ryan Branch went three for four with two home runs and four runs batted for Antelope Valley.
