PREP BASEBALL ROUNDUP : Zannitto Pitches One-Hitter to Shut Down Los Amigos

Joe Zannitto pitched a one-hitter to help Kennedy to a 2-0 victory over Los Amigos in a Garden Grove League baseball game Friday at Kennedy.

Zannitto, a senior right-hander, retired the first 12 he faced, then walked a batter to start the fifth. He then retired the next eight before a two-out error in the ninth. Fernando Bustos then singled before Zannitto got the final out to end the game. Ken Sundstrom, Kennedy’s third baseman, made an outstanding diving play in the sixth.

Zannitto (1-1) had eight strikeouts and walked one in the game that took about 1 hour 30 minutes.

Kennedy (5-3, 1-1 in league) scored both its runs in the first inning. Chris Clark had an RBI double and scored on a single by Aaron Peardon.

Gilbert Contreras pitched a three-hitter but took the loss for Los Amigos (2-8, 1-1).

In other Garden Grove League games:

La Quinta 11, Santiago 3--Corey Fox had three hits and a RBI and Sean Carlson hit a three-run home run for La Quinta (7-2, 2-0).

Bolsa Grande 2, Pacifica 0--Brian Moore pitched a three-hitter for Bolsa Grande (4-3, 1-1).

In the Freeway League:

Fullerton 10, Sonora 7 (5, rain)--Steve St. Pierre, Tyler Brickell, and Brian Shatz each hit home runs for Fullerton (8-1, 3-0). St. Pierre had four RBIs.

In the Olympic League:

Brethren Christian 8, Capistrano Valley Christian 7--Trailing by two at the bottom of the seventh inning with no one on and two outs, Brethren Christian put three batters aboard with two singles and one walk. The Warriors then scored three runs on two Capistrano Valley Christian errors.

The Warriors’ Kurt Aguilar hit a three-run home run in first inning. Tony Dybes went three for four with a triple to lead the Eagles.

Calvary Chapel 11, Ontario Christian 8--Joe Jones had three hits and four RBIs to lead Calvary Chapel (6-3, 2-0).

In the Orange League:

Valencia 3, Savanna 2--Art Francis struck out seven and gave up only three hits in Valencia’s victory. Francis also had one RBI in second inning for the Tigers, who are undefeated in league play.

In the South Coast League:

Mater Dei 9, Mission Viejo 2--Dave Sanchez hit a three-run home run in the fifth to give visiting Mater Dei (7-2-1, 4-0) a 6-0 lead. Mike Hessman added a two-run home run in the sixth. The Monarchs’ Tim Witzel had hit a home run in the second. Sanchez and Ed Marquez each had two hits for Mater Dei.

San Clemente 5, El Toro 2--Jeremy Conrad had an RBI double and Robert Frith followed with an RBI single to give visiting San Clemente (6-3, 2-1) a 2-1 lead in the third inning. The Tritons added three runs in the fourth, two on a dropped fly ball. Brian Wilson threw seven strikeouts and walked one in the loss for El Toro is 5-5, 1-3.

In Sunset League:

Fountain Valley 7, Servite 2--Deric Yanagisawa hit a two-run homer in the fourth and scored two runs on two hits for Fountain Valley (7-1, 1-1). John Goldsmith had two hits and scored a run for Servite (5-2-1, 1-1).
