COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Marauders Tie in 9th, Win in 11

Antelope Valley College scored five runs in the top of the ninth inning to pull even with Rio Hondo and scored three in the 11th to earn a 10-7 Foothill Conference victory Tuesday at Rio Hondo.

Eric Cole (1-0) earned the victory in relief and also went four for six with two runs batted in.

He doubled home a run in the 11th and scored the final run for Antelope Valley (11-8, 5-5 in conference play) on a balk.

Pierce 11, Ventura 6--Catcher Brian Sturges was three for four with four RBIs, leading the Brahmas (16-11, 8-0) to a Western State Conference victory in Woodland Hills.

Kevin Milligan also had three hits, including his first home run of the season, for Pierce.

Oxnard 14, Valley 12--Catcher Robert Sanchez was three for five with two RBIs, leading Oxnard (11-14, 5-5) to a WSC victory in a game at Van Nuys that included 10 errors, six by Valley.

Chapman 9, The Master’s 8--Kenya Hunt was three for six with a double and two RBIs, but the Mustangs (8-24-2) lost a nonconference game at Orange.

Jeff Terrell, Mark Vail and Matt Henzie each had two hits for the Mustangs.

Mark Balch started for The Master’s and gave up seven runs in 6 2/3 innings.

Adam Davis (1-1) took the loss, giving up two runs in 2 1/3 innings.

Jason Switzer led Chapman with four hits. Miguel Galaz added three hits for the Panthers.

Mission 26, El Camino 2--The Saints (16-13) pounded out 20 hits, including 10 extra-base hits in a nonconference game at El Camino.

Mission’s John Toven went four for seven and drove in four runs, and teammate Gary Matthews drove in four runs with a homer and double.
