Share

An Oxnard woman was arrested Friday on suspicion of stealing $238,000 from a large dental supply manufacturing company in Oxnard.

Wilma Caliboso Ildefonso, 31, who worked for Van-R Dental as a bookkeeper, was arrested after Oxnard police investigated her handling of various company accounts.

According to police, Ildefonso, who was responsible for writing checks to two subsidiary companies of Van-R Dental, allegedly would alter the payee line on the checks, type her own name and deposit the checks in various bank accounts. She altered the checks from June, 1992, to January, 1994, authorities said.

After a company audit revealed financial losses, the company asked the Oxnard Police Department to investigate. The monthlong investigation ended after police obtained search warrants to serve on Ildefonso’s various bank accounts, police said.

Ildefonso was booked at Ventura County Jail, where she was being held in lieu of $250,000 bail.
