PREP ROUNDUP : Esperanza Easily Beats Brea in Golf

Esperanza had four players shoot under par as the Aztecs beat Brea-Olinda, 171-207, in a nonleague golf match Monday at Imperial Golf Course in Brea.

Chris Berry shot a four-under 32 for Esperanza. Scott Lucidi, Jason Henderson and Bill Kelly each shot 34 for Esperanza (11-0).

In other nonleague golf:

El Toro 200, Western 212--Ben Garner of El Toro and Tiger Woods of Western, two of the best prep golfers in Southern California, tied at one-over 36 at Cypress Golf Club. Each had two birdies.

In the South Coast League:

San Clemente 216, Mater Dei 226--Scott Jordan was the medalist for Mater Dei (4-4, 0-3), shooting a three-over 39 at Tijeras Creek. San Clemente remains undefeated in league at 3-0.

In Sunset League girls’ track:

Westminster 92, Santa Ana 34--Shana Munyer won the 800, the 1,600 and the 3,200, and teammate Johanna Haggerty also won the high jump with a leap of 5 feet 3, which tied the school record for Westminster (1-3, 1-3). She also won the long jump and the triple jump.

In Pacific Coast League girls’ track:

Laguna Hills 97, Costa Mesa 26--Karine Inoye of Laguna Hills (2-0) won both hurdle events finishing the 100 in 16.3 and the 300 in 52.0.

In Pacific Coast League boys’ track and field:

Laguna Hills 90, Costa Mesa 42--Brandon McGraw won the 100 (11.2) and 200 (23.2) for Laguna Hills (2-0). Teammate Jesse McDonald threw his personal best in the discus (160-4), finishing first, and also won the shotput (43-5 3/4). Shaheed Quaasim ran the 110 hurdles in 15.1, but was disqualified at the end of the meet for participating in five events.

In nonleague tennis:

Mater Dei 11, Aliso Niguel 10--Brent Hankey swept at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-0, 6-2, and Paul Kerwin won, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 2 for host Mater Dei (3-4). Miles Simon and Austin Harris won at No. 1 doubles, 6-2, 6-0, 6-0, also for the Monarchs.

Newport Harbor 17, Laguna Beach 4--In singles, Geoff Abrams swept his sets without losing a game, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, in the Sailors’ victory. Jeff Thomsen also swept his sets, 6-4, 6-0, 6-0, and Mark Utman won, 6-3, 6-3, 6-2. In doubles, Peter Koss and Chris Ketcham won, 6-4, 6-2, 6-1, for Newport Harbor (6-7).

Saddleback 17 2/3, Santiago 3 1/3--In singles, Eliseo Amezcua swept his sets, 6-4, 7-6, 6-1, for Saddleback (5-6). In doubles, Mario Sanchez and Minh Nguy won, 6-1, 6-2, 6-2, and Lam Nguyen and Dung Truong won, 6-1, 6-0, 6-2.

Valencia 11 1/3, Cerritos 9 2/3--Chris Tobolski and Nick Lovric swept at Nos. 1 and 2 singles for Valencia (5-7).
