COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Cal Lutheran Erases 3-1 Deficit and Beats Azusa Pacific, 5-3

Ed Campanello’s single in the sixth inning drove in David Chapman to put Cal Lutheran ahead to stay as the Kingsmen defeated Azusa Pacific, 5-3, in a nonconference baseball game Wednesday at Thousand Oaks.

Tim Barber (1-1) earned the victory for Cal Lutheran (18-4-1) and Andrew Barber survived a bases-loaded scare in the ninth inning to get his second save.

Scott Sebo led the Kingsmen with three hits, while John Becker had two, including his fourth home run, a solo shot in the fourth inning.

Azusa Pacific (21-15) scored three times in the fourth inning against starter Marc Weiss to take a 3-1 lead.

UC San Diego 5, The Master’s 2--Steve Height struck out six Mustangs in eight innings, leading the Tritons to a nonconference victory at Newhall.

Mark Vail hit a solo home run in the fourth inning for Master’s (10-30-2). Kenya Hunt added a run-scoring single in the ninth.

Pierce 8, Moorpark 7--Kevin Milligan had three hits, including a three-run homer in the sixth inning for the Brahmas in a WSC game.

Milligan drove in five runs for Pierce (18-12, 10-5), which leads the Southern Division.

Britten Pond had three hits, including a fifth-inning homer, for Moorpark.

SOFTBALL

Moorpark 11-7, Ventura 2-2--Marcie James pitched a four-hitter and added two doubles for the Raiders in the opener of a WSC doubleheader. Jana Kovar had a six-hitter in the second game. Kristine Garcia had two triples for Ventura (12-14, 4-4).

Canyons 6-3, Bakersfield 0-0--Marianne Winchester pitched a one-hitter in the first game and followed with 3 2/3 innings in relief to pick up both victories in a WSC doubleheader at Valencia.

Winchester (7-3) struck out three in the first game and seven in the second. She yielded three hits and no walks.

Canyons (14-13, 6-2) scored four runs in the sixth inning of the opener. Kim Guerrero singled home a run and Danielle Bragdon tripled home two.

In the second game, Canyons scored in the third when Jamie Dean and Tricia Beer had run-scoring singles, and Dean scored on a passed ball.
