TUSTIN : 2 Council Members Are Sworn In Today
Tracy Worley and Michael J. Doyle will be sworn in as the newest members of the City Council today. A new mayor and mayor pro tem also will be elected during the five-member council’s first session since the April 12 municipal election.
Worley, 34, received 2,526 votes, the most among the four candidates for two seats. Doyle, 51, garnered 2,400 votes. Each was elected to serve a four-year term.
Worley and Doyle replace Leslie Anne Pontious and Charles E. Puckett, each of whom served a single term.
Chief Deputy City Clerk Valerie Whiteman said that the 19.1% voter turnout was about the same as the turnout for the 1992 city election.
The selection of a city mayor will be the first test of the new political alignment on the five-member council. By tradition, the current mayor pro tem, Thomas R. Saltarelli, should be elected mayor.
But Mayor Jim Potts, who campaigned for Doyle and Worley, may now have the votes to sway council decisions. In past council actions, Potts often cast the lone dissenting vote.
