Ferguson Powers Fullerton Past New Mexico State

Cal State Fullerton’s Jeff Ferguson was seven for seven with three home runs and seven runs batted in as the Titans rolled over host New Mexico State, 23-10, Saturday in a Big West Conference baseball game.

Ferguson, four for four with a home run in the series opener Friday, also had five runs scored and a double. He set a record for most hits in a game by a Titan.

The Titans (38-10, 14-5) scored 10 runs in the first inning, chasing Aggie starter Jaime Mendez.

Fullerton had 28 hits. Dante Powell had four hits, including a home run and a triple. Mark Kotsay, Bret Hemphill, Adam Millan and D.C. Olsen each had three hits, and Jack Jones hit his second home run in as many days.

Titan starting pitcher Matt Wagner (11-1) gave up five runs over five innings. Tony Fetchel earned his first save of the season, giving up five runs over four innings.

Paul LaGreca led New Mexico State (19-29, 2-15) with two hits, including a home run, and four RBIs.
