A 50-year-old woman out for an afternoon walk was attacked Thursday by two dogs that had escaped from a nearby home, authorities said.

The woman, who was not identified, was walking near the intersection of Parish Place and Chandler Boulevard about 5:40 p.m. when she was attacked by two adult pit bulls, said Sgt. Rick Madrid of the Burbank Police Department.

The dogs dragged the woman to the ground, biting and clawing her on the head, back, chest, neck and legs, Madrid said. The dogs’ owner, whose name was not released, was able to call the dogs off of the woman, Madrid said.

Madrid, who saw the victim, described the attack as a “very serious dog-bite case.”

The woman suffered puncture, tear and bite wounds and was taken to a local hospital, where she was treated for her injuries, Madrid said.

The victim, whose condition was not known, was still being treated late Thursday.

The dogs have been quarantined at the Burbank Animal Control Center until an investigation by animal control officers is complete, Madrid said. The dogs’ owner was not charged.
