Scyphers Will Not Seek Temporary Restraining Order

Brian O’Neill, the attorney representing suspended Simi Valley High baseball Coach Mike Scyphers, said Thursday he does not plan to seek a temporary restraining order to reinstate the coach.

O’Neill said he feared that a legal fight by Scyphers might hurt his chances for reinstatement through school district channels.

A judge in Ventura County Superior Court denied a restraining order Wednesday that was requested on Scyphers’ behalf by a group of baseball parents, saying Scyphers himself should be a plaintiff in the case.

Scyphers is now likely to remain suspended until the completion of police and district investigations into possible financial and disciplinary improprieties. The investigations are likely to last at least another week.

The Pioneers (17-6, 9-4 in Marmonte League play) clinched a Division I playoff berth Wednesday. The regular season will end today and the playoffs will begin a week from today.
