Bill Whiting, an assistant basketball coach at Occidental College and a professor of kinesiology at Cal State Northridge, has been named boys’ basketball coach at Chatsworth High.

Whiting, 40, replaces Sandy Greentree, who resigned in April after three seasons. Whiting served as boys’ coach at Eagle Rock High from 1984-92.

“I’m going to have players a little more talented than I’m used to,” Whiting said. “I’m looking forward to the challenge.”

Weiss, a transfer from Cal State L.A., said he probably will be assigned to the Reds’ rookie-league team in Billings, Mont.

Two other area players selected in the later rounds of last week’s draft, Palmdale High left-hander David Glick and Antelope Valley High third baseman Eric Cole, will play next season at Antelope Valley College and then consider signing. Glick was selected by the Milwaukee Brewers in an undisclosed round and Cole was taken by the Kansas City Royals in the 44th round.
