Name: WENDY O’BRIEN
Event: 50 Freestyle
School/Year: Irvine, So.
After a lukewarm freshman season, O’Brien came out with a vengeance this year. She won the Division I title with a time of 23.57, the fastest of the day.
Name: AMBER WINES
Event: 100 Breaststroke
School/Year: Santa Ana Valley, So.
Following in the footsteps of brother, Todd, she is making her mark in the breaststroke by winning the Division I title and setting a record at the Foothill Swim Games.
Name: TERESA MAUCK
Event: 200 Individual Medley
School/Year: San Clemente, Jr.
She finished third at the Division I finals in an extremely close race among the top three finishers. Her 2:05.96 was the fastest time in the county this season.
Name: KATIE LOWES
Event: 100 Freestyle, 200 Freestyle
School/Year: El Toro, So.
Though she finished second in both of her races at the Southern Section Division I finals, her times were still fast enough to make her No. 1 in Orange County.
Name: CATHY CARONE
Event: 100 Butterfly
School/Year: Capistrano Valley, So.
Carone started to take off after her record-breaking swim at the Foothill Swim Games in April, and her first-place finish in the Division I finals was a personal best of 57.81.
Name: SANDY ZUBRIN
Event: Diving
School/Year: Corona del Mar, Sr.
Zubrin, who is competing in China, finished her senior year by scoring 529.25 at the Division II championships. She never scored less than a six on any of her dives.
Name: WENDY MARTIN
Event: 500 Freestyle
School/Year: Kennedy, Sr.
Her time of 4:53.03 in the 500 freestyle and her second-place finish in an extremely competitive Division III field made her the top long-distance swimmer in the county.
Name: CHERYL MURPHY
Event: 100 Backstroke
School/Year: Mission Viejo, Jr.
Though Murphy was not able to duplicate her record-setting time of 56.62 turned in at the South Coast League finals, she finished third at the Division I finals.

Event: 200 Freestyle Relay
School: Capistrano Valley
Their time of 1 minute 40.90 seconds helped the Cougars finish with the county’s highest placing at the Southern Section Division I finals.

Event: 400 Freestyle Relay
School: Irvine
They finished second in the Southern Section Division II finals with a time of 3:36.81, which was the county’s fastest of the season.

They not only swam faster than Division I powerhouses Mission Viejo and El Toro, but came close to setting a Division II record.

Time: 24.57. Though her best events are the 100 and 200 freestyles, her 50 is ferocious.

Time: 51.06. Slightly slower than Lowes’ best, O’Brien won event at the section finals.

Time: 1:50.27. With two years left at El Dorado, she will be fighting for a top spot in ’95.

Event: 500 Freestyle
School/Year: Woodbridge, Sr.
Time: 4:56.65. Lost the 200 free but came back to win the 500 at the Division II finals.

Name: Gianna Johnson
Event: 100 Backstroke
School/Year: Laguna Hills, Jr.
Time: 57.69. A double winner at the Division II finals, she also won the 200 freestyle.

Time: 1:05.66. As expected, she battled Wines for first in Division I finals in a great race.
Name: Lisa Hess
Event: 100 Butterfly
School/Year: Canyon, Sr.
Time: 58.68. Finished third at Division I finals but had the second best time in the county.

Time: 1:40.97. Nancy Jo (So.), Stacy Rosenburg (So.), Stacy Secord (Fr.) and Emily VanEck (Fr.). Their time was just .07 seconds slower than Division I winner Capistrano Valley.

Time: 3:38.28. Cathy Carone (Jr.), Jeanine Povey (Jr.) Tracey McCalley (Sr.) and Carly Cox (Fr.). This team surprised some by beating El Toro and Mission Viejo at Division I finals.

Time: 1:51.04. Tatum Schubert (Sr.), Joanna O’Kelley (Fr.), Amy DeBolt (Sr.) and Adrienne Paradeise (Sr.). Finished only a few tenths of a second behind No. 1 Irvine.

Score: 498.50. No problems in the Division I finals, she was 26 points ahead of the pack.
