A Times editor was being interviewed by the British Broadcasting Corp. about the possible effect of Maradona’s drug suspension on the American public’s perception of soccer.

“It won’t color the perception at all,” the editor said. “After all, you have to remember that this is the town that has had to deal with the Darryl Strawberry situation.”

“Who’s Darryl Strawberry?” the British interviewer responded.
