WORLD CUP USA ‘94: ROUND OF 16 : Spotlight : A DAY OF TV BEATS A DAY AT THE BEACH

Attendance at the beach was down Monday, and it appears that the U.S.-Brazil game is one reason.

The game drew a 10.5 overnight television rating from 30 major U.S. markets, according to Nielsen Media Research, and ABC estimated 32 million people watched.

In Los Angeles, the game drew a 13.9 rating and in San Francisco, 16.6.

When all the figures are released Friday, the game should break the U.S. record for soccer, 6.8, set June 26 when the United States played Romania in the first round.
