Beverly Hunt, a 5-foot-7 guard from Rancho Verde High in Moreno Valley, has signed a letter of intent to play basketball next season at Azusa Pacific University.

Hunt averaged 15 points and 10 rebounds as a senior.

Jack Hwang, a recent graduate of Arcadia High, was one of 24 student athletes nationally who will receive $1,500 scholarships through Footaction USA’s “Hooked on Sports Not Drugs or Violence” program.

Hwang was selected based on his academic achievement, financial need, and an essay about how sports and academics positively influenced his life.

The city of La Verne is accepting registration for a Southern California Municipal Athletic Federation C/D slow-pitch softball tournament that will be played July 23.

A golf tournament that will benefit the Hacienda Heights Library will be staged Aug. 22 at Hacienda Golf Club in La Habra Heights.

A $200 donation includes a golf cart, lunch on the course, dinner and an auction. Proceeds will be used to purchase materials for the children’s collection of the library.
