GOLF ROUNDUP : Lee Advances in USGA Girls’ Junior

Fullerton’s Jenny Lee won two matches Wednesday to advance to the round of 16 at the USGA Girls’ Junior Golf Championship at Meadowlark Country Club in Great Falls, Mont.

Lee, who will be a senior at Sunny Hills in the fall, beat Meridith Thomas of Murfreesboro, Tenn., 7 and 6, and Desiree Ting of Wailuku, Hawaii, 4 and 2.

Jane Park of Buena Park lost in the first round to medalist Kelli Kuehne of McKinney, Tex. Jenny Glasgow of Corona del Mar lost in the first round to Sheryl Noble of Humble, Tex., 4 and 3.

In the American Junior Golf Assn. Tournament of Champions, Kellee Booth of Coto de Caza shot a two-under-par 68 and moved into second place after two rounds at Oak Tree Country Club in Edmond, Okla.

Booth, who shot 80 Tuesday, moved to within three strokes of Heather Graff of Kennewick, Wash., who shot 70 Wednesday. Alicia Allison of Santa Ana shot 73 and is in third place at 149.

In the boys’ division, Fullerton’s Terry Noe was the only Orange County player to make the cut. Noe shot 74 for a two-day total of 148, 11 strokes behind leader Robert Floyd of Miami Beach.

Chris Berry of Yorba Linda shot 74 and finished at 155. Ben Garner of Lake Forest shot 80 and finished at 159. The cut was 150.

In the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship, Kevin Claborn of Brea beat Tom Kroll of San Marcos, 1-up, in the first round of match play at the Eagle Bend Golf Course in Bigfork, Mont.
