PRO FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : AROUND THE NFL : Townsend Goes From Raiders to Eagles
The Philadelphia Eagles signed two-time Pro Bowl defensive end Greg Townsend to a one-year contract for a reported $730,000, two days after he was cut by the Raiders.
“I think getting Greg Townsend is a great thing for us,” Eagle Coach Rich Kotite said. “He has proven over the years with the Raiders that he’s a force on the defensive line against both the run and the pass.”

Don Shula signed a new contract in his 25th year with the Miami Dolphins that will give him a minority ownership and let him coach through 1996 unless he decides to run the team from the front office.
“It will be Don’s decision,” Dolphin owner Wayne Huizenga said. “He can coach as long as he wants.”
The announcement came a week after Shula, the coach with the most victories in NFL history, let it be known he might not coach past this year when his contract expired. There was speculation after Jimmy Johnson left the Dallas Cowboys that Huizenga might recruit him to replace Shula in the 1995 season. Shula’s contract is worth $4 million for two years, the Miami Herald reported.
