Rookie Rondell White turned a rare start into a one-man show.

White drove in all seven Montreal runs with a homer, double and two singles as the Expos beat the fading Dodgers, 7-4, on Sunday for their sixth consecutive victory.

“I’ll probably never do that again, so I really should appreciate it,” White said.

“With people on base, I tend to concentrate more,” he said. “After I got my first hit, I started to relax. After my second hit, everything was a bonus.”

The Expos swept the three-game series and improved to 60-37, the best record in the NL.

The Dodgers, leading the NL West, lost their fifth in a row. They dropped to 2-8 on a trip that concludes with a three-game series at Candlestick Park against Darryl Strawberry and the San Francisco Giants.

White went four for five, striking out once with the bases loaded. The 22-year-old left fielder had made only 10 starts this season and was batting .255 with four RBIs in 51 at-bats.

“I’ve only been in three games since the break, but this should carry me for a while,” White said.

White had a run-scoring single in the first inning. He connected for his first homer of the year, a three-run shot, for a 4-1 lead in the third.

In the fifth, White delivered a two-run double that chased Kevin Gross (7-7). White came up with the bases loaded in the sixth, but struck out against Roger McDowell.

“It’s too bad circumstances don’t allow a man like that to play every day,” Expo Manager Felipe Alou said, “but he will next year. Somewhere.”

The three batters ahead of White set him up nicely. Rookie Cliff Floyd went four for four with a walk, Moises Alou had three hits and Darrin Fletcher had two hits.

“He’ll probably remember this day for the rest of his life,” Dodger Manager Tom Lasorda said of White.

Eric Karros and Mitch Webster hit consecutive homers against Kirk Rueter (6-2) in the fourth, cutting the Dodgers’ deficit to 4-3. It was Karros’ first homer in 146 at-bats.

Rueter gave up three runs in five innings and won his third consecutive start. John Wetteland got four outs for his 18th save, giving up a pinch-hit homer by Chris Gwynn in the ninth.

Gross gave up six runs and 11 hits in four innings. He is winless in his last five starts.

Montreal ran its home record to 25-5 against the Dodgers since 1990. The Expos finished 9-3 against the Dodgers overall this season.

“We’ll be all right, we’re just not doing anything much right now,” Webster said.

The Dodgers loaded the bases with none out in the first but got only one run as Tim Wallach grounded into a double play. Catcher Mike Piazza’s botched play during a rundown in the first led to Montreal’s first run.
