Lemieux Expected to Sit Out

From Staff and Wire Reports

Mario Lemieux will meet with Pittsburgh Penguin owner Howard Baldwin this week and is expected to tell him that he isn’t healthy enough to play this season, according to sources close to the team.

Lemieux, 28, who sat out most of last season after his second back operation in four years, has sat out at least 25 games over each of the last five seasons because of a bad back and Hodgkin’s disease.

The Penguins traded right wing Rick Tocchet to the Kings for All-Star left wing Luc Robitaille last Friday, but Penguin General Manager Craig Patrick denied he made the trade in anticipation of Lemieux not playing.
