BUENA PARK : DARE Fair to End Summer Activities

Share

A series of summer activities sponsored by DARE will culminate in a grand finale fair from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Peak Park Saturday.

The fair will honor children who have participated in any of DARE’s groups, such as martial arts and cheerleading, but the entire community is invited to attend, said Kim M. Garber-Bond, city recreation supervisor.

“Anybody can come, because we are celebrating life,” she said.

Police will offer fingerprinting of children and “Kinder Vision,” a videotape of children that identifies height and characteristics, Garber-Bond said.

Other activities include an “Iron POGman” tournament that mixes exercise, POGs, cheerleading and tae kwon do clinics, and police demonstrations with Rocky the police dog.

DARE is the Drug Awareness Resistance Education program sponsored jointly by the police and recreation departments.

More than 1,500 parents and children are expected.

Box lunches will be available for $3.50.

The park is on Knott Avenue north of La Palma Avenue.
