A 17-year-old died Friday night and his friend was injured when they were ejected from a Volkswagen beetle that overturned and landed on its side on a private road on McDonnell Douglas property.

Christopher Lee Thompson of Westminster, the driver, was dead on arrival at the Huntington Beach Medical Center, police Lt. Luis Ochoa said. The front passenger, Anthony Levi Hailey, 18, of Desert Hot Springs, was in serious condition Saturday at UCI Medical Center in Orange.

Another passenger was not hurt, police said.

The accident occurred shortly before midnight Friday on Ranch Road. Police said the Volkswagen was traveling north when Thompson tried to make a left turn at a curve. The car “overturned and came back onto the roadway,” Sgt. Ron Burgess said. Thompson and Hailey were ejected before the car finally landed on its right side, Burgess said.
