A 38-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of fatally stabbing his roommate with a kitchen knife during a drunken argument at a home in Nyeland Acres, authorities said Saturday.

Miguel Garabaldi initially fled the scene of Friday night’s stabbing, but he returned a short time later and was taken into custody, said Sheriff’s Sgt. Mike Barnes.

Garabaldi was booked into Ventura County Jail on suspicion of homicide and was being held in lieu of $250,000 bail, Barnes said.

The victim, whose identity is being withheld pending notification of relatives, was pronounced dead from a single stab wound to the abdomen after arriving at St. John’s Regional Medical Center, authorities said.

The slaying occurred about 10:15 p.m. inside a residence at 3584 Orange Drive in Nyeland Acres, an unincorporated area of the county just north of Oxnard.

According to the Sheriff’s Department, Garabaldi, the victim and two acquaintances were inside the house drinking alcohol, watching TV and listening to music when Garabaldi and the victim began arguing. During the fight, Garabaldi allegedly grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed his roommate, authorities said. The knife was found at the scene.

Garabaldi is scheduled to appear for arraignment in Ventura County Municipal Court on Tuesday.
