Chris Jacke’s 36-yard field goal late in the fourth quarter gave the Green Bay Packers a 13-10 victory over the New Orleans Saints on Friday night at the Superdome.

The Packers (2-1) spoiled the Saints’ first exhibition home game this season with Jacke’s second field goal of the game. It came after Tommy Barnhardt’s 34-yard punt put Green Bay on New Orleans’ 46.

Mark Brunell, Green Bay’s quarterback in the fourth quarter, scrambled 12 yards in the 28-yard drive before Jacke kicked the game-winner.

Former Ram Jim Everett, making his first start in the Superdome as a member of the Saints (0-3), gave New Orleans a 7-0 lead seven plays into the game. Everett passed for 56 yards in the 63-yard drive before Derek Brown scored from one-yard out.

Everett completed 10 of 16 for 102 yards, had one interception and was sacked once in the first half.

Cleveland scored 14 first-half points off turnovers and Vinny Testaverde added a 16-yard touchdown pass to Michael Jackson as the Browns defeated the Atlanta Falcons, 28-7, at Cleveland.

The Browns (3-0) ensured their best exhibition season record in four years under Coach Bill Belichick. They last went 4-0 in 1986.

Atlanta (2-2) committed five turnovers and 16 penalties, ruining reasonably good performances by quarterback Jeff George (114 yards, one touchdown) and running back Erric Pegram (20 carries, 84 yards).

The Arizona Cardinals had “Buddy Ball,” but the Detroit Lions were too tall and that was the difference in a 24-16 victory at Pontiac, Mich.

Scott Mitchell, a 6-foot-6 quarterback, completed 12 of 22 passes for 200 yards and two touchdowns, both to 6-3 Herman Moore.

Steve Beuerlein, who missed the Cardinals’ 16-0 loss to Chicago last week with a sore back, played the first three quarters. He was 11 for 20 for 147 yards and one touchdown, but had three interceptions.

Dexter Carter, the San Francisco 49ers’ No. 2 running back and top kick return specialist, is expected to be out about six weeks after suffering a stretched ligament in his right knee.

Carter suffered the injury Thursday night during a game at San Diego.
