Chris Hebert, who was to be one of Crespi High’s best pitchers, has transferred to Taft. Hebert, a 6-foot-1 junior right-hander, was 4-1 with a 1.71 earned-run average during the American Legion regular season for Encino.

Phil White has been selected as head coach at Wenatchee Valley Community College in Washington. White, a member of Rio Mesa’s CIF championship teams in 1985 and 1986, will be reviving a baseball program that has been dormant since 1977.

“I think that is one of the most exciting things about the job,” he said. “The first year might be an uphill battle but in the long run it cold be very rewarding.”

White, 26, was an assistant at the University of Portland last season.

Basketball

Susan Malisch, women’s coach at Fontbonne College for the past four seasons, has been hired as an assistant at Cal State Northridge.

Malisch, 30, guided the Griffins to a pair of St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference titles during her four seasons at the NCAA Division III school.

She is a 1986 graduate of Rockhurst College in Kansas City, Mo., where she was most valuable player as a junior and senior.
