With the longest single engagement in the Orange County Performing Arts Center’s eight-year history, “The Phantom of the Opera” grossed a record $7.3 million, playing to 149,354 during the six weeks from July 22 through Saturday. A center official said Tuesday that paid attendance averaged 97.3% of capacity for the 54 performances (the potential gross was $7.45 million). In its final week, “Phantom” set a one-week record of $1.1 million with paid attendance of 99.9%. The previous record-holder was “Les Miserables,” which grossed $954,779 during one week in September 1992.
