FARE WAR WHERE? The latest airline fare war, prompted by Continental Airlines’ fall cuts of as much as 50% (D2), doesn’t do Burbank Airport travelers much good because Continental doesn’t fly there. So the other airlines, which are matching Continental’s cuts, left their Burbank fares unchanged. . . . If you’re going from Burbank to Denver, however, you’re in luck; United cut that flight from $458 round trip to $278. Otherwise, your best bet is to fly out of LAX.

SCHOOL LUNCHES: A proposed overhaul of the nation’s school lunch system (A26) might mean fewer food choices for local students, said Carol Noelting of the Los Angeles Unified School District’s food services branch. . . . It costs so much to do a detailed nutritional analysis of each item, she said, that officials might analyze only a few and serve those.

DOUBLE TAKE: Game scenes for a new Warner Bros. football movie called “Little Giants” are being filmed at the L.A. Equestrian Center in Burbank. . . . “It’s very scenic, the grounds are well kept, and it’s very photogenic,” said center General Manager Ken Mowry. The center used the proceeds to help build a new 300-by-400-foot riding ring.
