OUTLOOK

Most of the Olympic League coaches believe the Eagles are the team to beat with Cerritos Valley Christian, and Coach Van Hook is doing nothing to discourage that talk. “We have real high expectations,” he said. “We’re going to have a good team.” One reason for optimism is the Eagles’ six three-year starters: quarterback Kruse, running back Sundquist, tight end Jones, receiver Echan, center Van Hook and lineman Eby. The Eagles will run often behind an experienced offensive line. Echan will move to tailback for the first part of the season because Nash, the expected starter, is recovering from shoulder surgery. Kruse, who was weakened last season by treatment for a non-malignant tumor in his head, is at full strength again.
